Digi XBee-PRO USB Modem

Digi International makes a wonderful line of 802.15.4 XBee modems. They are fast, power, and reliable short range modems. The only downside to the modems is that they aren't readily available, but with lead times of six weeks or more. Faced with too long of lead time and a short-deadline project, APRS World designed our own external USB modem that uses a Digi XBee-PRO modem. This product is functionally similar to Digi's XBee-PRO PKG modem package.

Our XBee-PRO modem is perfectly compatible with Digi's -- because we use a Digi RF modem module. USB interface is provided by an FTDI FT232RL USB to serial converter IC.

European Use Note

Note: When operating in Europe, XBee-PRO modems must be configured to operate at a maximum TX power output level of 10 dBm (power output level is set using the PL command). Additionally, European regulations stipulate an EIRP power maximum of 12.86 dBm (19 mW).
